A number of people have sent me a link to a video of the Serbian Mininster of Science and Technology warbling his way through Soldier of Fortune, showing that despite the uncertainties of the times it’s not all work work work! Can a Stormbringer tribute album be far behind?
Needless to say in the season of mists, mellow fruitlessness and political party conferences this made us wonder what our own charmless nerks might tackle if they had to time to cover a Deep Purple number?
Iain Duncan Smith (busy pushing through demeaning disability assessment changes) with ‘When a Blind Man Cries’? The Defence Secretary doing ‘The Battle Rages On’? Paddy Pantsdown could cover ‘Hard Lovin’ Man’; Chancellor George Osborne might have a crack at ‘Mean Streak’ or ‘The Cut Runs Deep; David Cameron sings ‘Anyone’s Daughter (can be forgotten about and left in the pub)’…
Jeremy Hunt – in charge of the NHS – covers ‘Lay Down, Stay Down’, the transport secretary does ‘Slow Train’; Louise Mensch does ‘Flight of the Rat’, or ‘The Bird Has Flown’, and of course the anthem for property flipping MPs everywhere to sing is ‘You Keep On Moving’. Not forgetting the Minister in charge of rail franchise renewal warbling You Can’t Do It Right.
Thanks to Tim Summers and Matthew Kean.

Brilliant performance! Brought a tear to my eye, as the original always does.

In Germany we once had a President who liked to sing in the public. Walter Scheel in the 70s: “Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen” Aaaaargh.
This Serbian is much better. He has obviously worked on the song for some time resulting in his very own interpretation which fits for him and differs from the original. Congratulations. You don’t have to look cool to be cool.

I’ve got a feeling the sainted Tony Blair had a bash at Smoke On The Water once, but haven’t got the enthusiasm to go looking for it!

It’s really very good for a live performance — great stuff from the man. Would Obama or Romney were so musical, LOL

Not sure I ever want to hear the Republicans singing Andrew.

I was prepared to have a good laugh, but instead I was blown away. EXCELLENT performance!

Coverdale (would have to) sing better than for many years to beat this guy. Great video.

I think he’s done a very good job of his cover of the song, he has good tone and he could hold a note very well… great respect to the bloke.

How about ex-Chancellor Gordon Brown singing “Money to Burn”, maybe Sara Palin could have a stab at “Strange Kind of Woman”? Given Barrack Obama’s recent TV debate performances how about a chorus of “You Fool No One”? “Ramshackle Man” might be made for dear old Boris Johnson, similarly John Prescott and “Nasty Piece of Work”… Okay I’ll shut up now!

If I’m being entirely honest, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be…….

Judging by the reverb/echo that there is in his voice that Sertbian TV studio must be bl**dy massive! It reminded me of seeing Rainbow at Leeds Queens hall on the ‘Difficult to Come’ tour – Blackmore played his last note and had left the stage before you heard the echo…

Love the line about the ‘weanmeal going round’!!

…and the compilation album could be called “Fools”!

We could get the chief whip to co-ordinate the various MPs! Oh, hang on a minute, he’s just ‘resigned’.
October 22, 2012 at 8:33 pm
Yeah, took him long enough didn’t it?
October 19, 2012 at 11:49 am |
Well his voice certainly sounds better than Coverdale’s from the last tour

What’s this comment based on, some internet video clips? – I thought DC was in top form when I saw Whitesnake in Manchester (June 2011)
