Looks like Universal will steam in to their share of the Deep Purple back catalogue first with a version of Made In Japan later this year. This will be the fourth CD release of the material, be interesting to see how the label tackles what is arguably the jewel in the crown of the archives.
Updates on Bernie Marsden‘s new solo album (which guests Coverdale and Paice) on the Coverdale page; a set list and brief review of one of the recent US shows; and details of an official Captain Beyond bootleg fest 2CD set on the Rod Evans page.

This will be quite interesting, with the 3cd box set released ages ago, entitled “Live In Japan”, let’s hope there are no similarities. How would it be if the anniversary edition was released in 5.1 surround sound? With a stack of extras? Let’s hope.

What do you mean by “a version “… what are they going to do with it? It would be nice if it were re-released in it’s original Gold sleeve colour. I hate the black version!

Simon, is this new “Made in Japan” edition the deluxe one planned a while ago that included the synched footage?

MIJ kind of got sidelined during all the problems at EMI during the takeover period. Universal have taken on this part of the catalogue and will do it their way, albeit in more depth than some of their 2CD rush-jobs which have got such a poor reputation. I think the footage will play a part in one or more editions.
