And all that Jazz

People with long memories should recall a very different cover album called “Jazz Tribute To Deep Purple” by the Air Jazz Quartet, issued back in 1995. It was an interesting and very listenable CD, one of the few such records to make it to our shelves permanently. It’s been out of print now for many years, but the producer Alain Rabiat has finally got a new edition pressed, and with three extra bonus tracks too. The best way to get this is to buy it direct from their official website www.deep-purple-jazz.fr (either as a proper disc or those new fangled MP3 thingies!)
Here’s a photo Alian sent of IP holding the first copy.

Did send a mail to the company to ask what the bonus tracks are ( I already own the first edition) but havn’t got an answer yet …

  4. David Black Says:

Sounds interesting. Is there a more comprehensive review available?

    • simon robinson Says:

Not since we did one in the magazine! But I think it’d worth a listen, there are some samples on their website.

      • David Black Says:

        Simon,

I don’t suppose you remember what the number of the issue was? Then i can dig out my lovingly stored copies of DTB!

      • simon robinson Says:

I find it a bit depressing to go through the back issues David as I miss doing it!

      • David Black Says:

Not as much as i miss receiving it! Managed to find the original mention of the CD but it wasn’t a review then got sidetracked into reading all the old copies of DTB. Several (happy) hours later…. was the first convention really 23 years ago?

so i got the jazz anyway and it’s fantastic.

      • IAN DOUGLAS Says:

Simon PLEASE bring back the Magazine as it was priceless – the incredible detail and fairness of coverage across ALL lineups and offshoots! Digital is so boring and incomplete and unreliable in comparison. There is no comparison. Please!

      • simon robinson Says:

I’d love to Ian but it was only kept going by all the other stuff and once that was swept from me it just couldn’t pay it’s way…

  5. Mike Whiteley Says:

Even though I’m really curious to hear this, the cost of the CD + shipping, after conversion to Canadian funds, is 55 dollars. That’s far too expensive to indulge my curiosity.

  6. Max Says:

Got this for years and it is very interesting and enjoyable indeed! Whereas this russian orchestra doing the Purple classics (and released back then too) still turns up in my nightmares …
