Hanwell Open Day

Many thanks for flagging-up the recent open day at Hanwell. As someone who has lived in London all my life, I thought it was about time I did the ‘Purple’ pilgrimage. I saw the Purple related areas and the inside of their rehearsal room. It was a very good day. Had a tour of the building, an impressive place, interesting architecture and history. Lots of community stalls including ‘The Ealing Club’ dedicated to Ealing’s rock music history and heritage.
I’ve attached some snaps including Purple’s rehearsal room (inside); The Gary Garbow Blues Band, with the DP drainpipe to the left and an old reel to reel in the basement – it wasn’t being dumped apparently….
In their display panel about Deep Purple they say Roger ‘Daltry’ had joined the band!

Thanks Bill; that looks a seriously interesting bit of tape recorder, I assume you managed to play the reel to check, just in case! See other links to posts about the building and to the A-Z page on the web archive here: http://wp.me/p5b2S-an, http://wp.me/P5b2S-Au

Yes, the reel does look like it contains some of the rehearsals! In fact it probably has the very first run through of Child in Time!
