Deep Purple rehearsal February 2019.png

Deep Purple are currently hunkered down in Nashville working on their next studio album, using the same set-up as for Infinite (released in April 2017).  The band had a pre-recording writing session in a big studio in Germany in February (see photo above; no idea what they used the cherry picker for!)).  It’s early days yet but given how rapidly things are moving, and with more shows being lined up for the later part of 2019 (see below) one suspects an Autumn release might well be on the cards. Like the writing session they are keeping the recordings top secret, so here’s a photo of a local bus instead.

More shows?  They have just announced a decent tour of America starting in September and running right through to the third week of October.  This has to be one of the bands biggest tours there for a long time, some thirty-three dates listed so far.  No wonder they’ve been taking it easy for much of the year.

Thanks to Tim Summers, Lutz Reinert and others for the details.  Full dates are on our diary page.  This includes the European shows in December.

Liverpool Stadium

April 30, 2019

I do like it when people take the time to write with their recollections of seeing Deep Purple in the olden days (if anything it doesn’t make me feel so old!); recently I was exchanging emails with a woman who saw them at Walthamstow Tech in 1970 who told me of fans being passed back over the crowd after fainting, while a lad who spotted Jon Lord sneaking through the foyer at The Rainbow and coming back with a crate of beer for the dressing room had been adding his thoughts to help bring some nice detail to another show.  A few people have recently been recalling what turned out to be Mk 2’s last ever UK show at Liverpool Stadium in 1973, a poorly documented event (so far no photos or tickets from it have surfaced, and a guitar which went into pieces that night is still missing!).  As a result of their contributions we’ve put together a small feature on this on the concert diary pages.  Liverpool would prove to be the band’s last show of all three years later. And if you have tickets or memories of any of the shows back then do get in touch, and add to our archive.

Christmas markets

March 27, 2019

The dates we mentioned the other day are firming up. Here are the shows confirmed so far (and one of the flyers) if anyone fancies a family visit to a pre-Christmas market (“oh look, Deep Purple are playing in town love, what a coincidence…”). Thanks to Tim Summers for the info, complete with links to stories announcing the dates if you need more detail. I’ll add the venues etc. to our diary shortly. Tickets go on sale this Friday. I assume they will be doing more in 2020 as it’s likely the new studio album will be out by then.  They begin recording in America later this year.

Москва́

June 4, 2018

The setlist from Moscow last week gives an idea of the current set of dates: Highway star, Bloodsucker, Pictures of Home, Strange Kind of Woman, Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming, Uncommon Man, Lazy, Time for Bedlam, Birds of Prey, Knocking At Your Backdoor, Perfect Strangers, Space Truckin’, Smoke on The Water – Hush, Black Night
Time For Bedlam was dropped at the festival they did in Mexico, probably for time reasons, but otherwise this seems to be the show for the time being. So the new album content has dropped quite a lot, it looks like we caught them at the right time on the UK tour last year! Thanks to Mike Richards and Bo Olsson for the updates. All the upcoming dates are on our diary page.

Purple Dates

Deep Purple Judas Priest.jpg

Deep Purple have announced another batch of concerts. They are kicking off in the third week of August in the USA, Cincinnati on the 21st and running right through to the very end of September. Tickets are on sale from today. The band then head over to Japan for five shows. Nothing listed for Tokyo yet but there is some leeway for them to add a show there. In total this means the group are doing around 50 shows in the year, which does suggest they are easing off the workload a little.

The American shows are in partnership with Judas Priest.

The diary page (see menu on right) is now updated, and our thanks to Lutz Reinart, Greg Tarlinton and Tom Dixon for the extra information.

Tour dates updated

December 6, 2017

Deep Purple’s 2018 schedule continues to grow, so we’ve fully updated the tour diary. It looks as if they’ll be in Europe for much of July, with gigs in Italy, France, Germany, Poland and Czech Republic now announced, plus the previously listed shows in Russia and Ukraine and a festival in Mexico. Big thanks to Lutz Reinert for the extra info.

The Purple Tour

November 8, 2017

Yes, that one.  Anyone following the U.S. tour set lists with dismay will be happy to learn that the Stockholm show on the 6th November saw FOUR songs from the current album return, so with one track off the previous album and two from Perfect Strangers, the set is a touch over 50% reunion (plus the encore). Which is nice. I’ll stick the full set list (minus solos etc) below the photo, so don’t look if you’re trying to hold out for the shows in a couple of weeks! You’ll never manage. We were at an antique fair earlier this year and wanted to watch the F1 highlights when we got home, some sod announced the result over the tannoy.

Slupsk

August 1, 2016

Deep Purple Poland July 26th 2016

I’ve been pointed at a nice gallery of Deep Purple concert images from the recent (July 26th) outdoor amphitheatre style arena show in Slupsk, Poland, hosted on a local news website, GP24. In addition they have slammed up seven minutes or so of reasonably well hand-held footage from the opening few songs (none are complete), including a particularly filthy opening verse to Hard Lovin’ Woman courtesy potty mouth Ian Gillan! They played the final show of the European tour in Germany last night (31st).

June / July

December 18, 2015

… seems a long way off right now but the talk of a Scandinavia tour we mentioned a while back has now firmed up into a wider European visit to follow, taking in a number of regular festivals through June and July, across in Italy, Germany, Poland and Austria.  It’s taken me a while to collate the info people have kindly sent in but we’ve now added 17 shows to the date list pageBig thank you to Richard Borg, Bengt Johnasson, Lutz Reinhert, Svante Axbacke and all at http://www.deep-purple.it/  for their help.  If you spot any more do let us know.

Scandinavia tour?

December 8, 2015

Deep PurpleIt looks like Purple are getting their 2016 shows lined up, and eagle eyed spotters (thanks to Tim and Matthew) have found three Scandinavian shows in June.
Two in Finland, Helsinki on the 10th and Oulu on the 11th, both supported by Urian Heep.  They are also playing in Denmark on the 17th at the Horsens Forum.  Let us know if you see any more dates.
I would assume this will be to promote their new album, which they are due to start recording in early 2016 in the US.
