The Purple Tour

November 8, 2017

Yes, that one.  Anyone following the U.S. tour set lists with dismay will be happy to learn that the Stockholm show on the 6th November saw FOUR songs from the current album return, so with one track off the previous album and two from Perfect Strangers, the set is a touch over 50% reunion (plus the encore). Which is nice. I’ll stick the full set list (minus solos etc) below the photo, so don’t look if you’re trying to hold out for the shows in a couple of weeks! You’ll never manage. We were at an antique fair earlier this year and wanted to watch the F1 highlights when we got home, some sod announced the result over the tannoy.

Slupsk

Deep Purple Poland July 26th 2016

I’ve been pointed at a nice gallery of Deep Purple concert images from the recent (July 26th) outdoor amphitheatre style arena show in Slupsk, Poland, hosted on a local news website, GP24. In addition they have slammed up seven minutes or so of reasonably well hand-held footage from the opening few songs (none are complete), including a particularly filthy opening verse to Hard Lovin’ Woman courtesy potty mouth Ian Gillan! They played the final show of the European tour in Germany last night (31st).

June / July

December 18, 2015

… seems a long way off right now but the talk of a Scandinavia tour we mentioned a while back has now firmed up into a wider European visit to follow, taking in a number of regular festivals through June and July, across in Italy, Germany, Poland and Austria.  It’s taken me a while to collate the info people have kindly sent in but we’ve now added 17 shows to the date list pageBig thank you to Richard Borg, Bengt Johnasson, Lutz Reinhert, Svante Axbacke and all at http://www.deep-purple.it/  for their help.  If you spot any more do let us know.

Scandinavia tour?

December 8, 2015

Deep PurpleIt looks like Purple are getting their 2016 shows lined up, and eagle eyed spotters (thanks to Tim and Matthew) have found three Scandinavian shows in June.
Two in Finland, Helsinki on the 10th and Oulu on the 11th, both supported by Urian Heep.  They are also playing in Denmark on the 17th at the Horsens Forum.  Let us know if you see any more dates.
I would assume this will be to promote their new album, which they are due to start recording in early 2016 in the US.

After all the news lately about tribute bands and cover versions, some actual new Deep Purple shows to report.  The band have a short set of shows in America during July and August, plus a one off in Canada and another down Mexico way (and in case Vladimir strops and decides to reannex Alaska, one in Russia too.)  Tickets are on sale now for most of these shows and you can read the full list on our 2015 gig page.  Thanks to Vince Chong in Canada for the info, with his local ticket seller proudly displaying a photo of Mk 2 at De Lane Lea to their online viewers!

USA set-list and review

August 19, 2014

There is the current set list for the August 2014 tour of America added to our 2014 date sheet, and Steve Hunt has sent us his thoughts on the show in California in front of over 7,000 people – so good to see they can still pull in a decent crowd when they do get to tour the U.S. properly. He and his wife enjoyed it so much they’re off to catch another show!

Houston we have some pictures.

April 18, 2014

Deep Purple’s first American tour during July 1971 is not very well documented visually, the band being support to The Faces for most of the shows and yet to overcome their days as chart toppers with Hush. On the 28th they played the Sam Houston Coliseum and reportedly went down a storm according to local fans. For some time now a set of low res pictures has been doing the rounds from this show and the originals recently came up for sale in America at a specialist music memorabilia auction.  Because photographs from this first US tour are so rare, and these are very good (taken by a local enthusiast) we decided to try and secure them for the DPAS archives and happily have been able to do so.
You can see two individual shots on our concert date list.
