Who Cares Album

ian gillan tony iommi in streetDetails are emerging of the Who Cares charity album which follows the special track Gillan and Iommi released in 2011 (guesting Jon Lord). The album – due at the end of June – is a mix of previously issued material (tracks from Gillan’s Inn, Sabbath’s Born Again, Tyr, etc.) and rarities. Although the final track list is not yet confirmed, there are a few items items which will fill gaps in collections, including the famous Dick Pimple recording made exclusively for the DPAS convention with the Morse line-up (this was the first time anyone had heard the band), but billed here for some reason as a Purpendicular out-take. There’s a Repo Depo studio track, the promising band IG was putting together just before he rejoined Purple second time round, and a live version of When A Blind Man Cries which he did on radio which hasn’t come out before.
Other tracks will be more familiar to collectors, including a couple of Iommi bonus tracks with Glenn Hughes not available in Europe on disc before (but issued in Japan or on download); that very strange Mikhalis Ratzinkis duet IG did which came out on CD in Greece, and is very rare (though how many times you’d want to play it is another matter!); plus bits and pieces from The Moonshiners, The Javelins, Deep Purple Live At The Ahoy, etc. which most of you will already know.
Anyhow, it’s available to pre-order at DTBOnline store (we still have a few copies of the rare CD single in stock too). We’ll post a final track listing when we get it but the list below (from Classic Rock magazine) is fairly complete. My thanks to Tom Dixon for the information.

WhoCares – Out Of My Mind (from the charity single)
WhoCares – Holy Water (ditto)
Ian Gillan –Trashed (from Gillan’s Inn)
Black Sabbath – Zero The Hero (Born Again)
Deep Purple – Dick Pimple (convention instrumental)
Black Sabbath – Anno Mundi (from Tyr)
Ian Gillan – She Thinks It’s A Crime (vinyl only bonus cut)
Tony Iommi feat. Glenn Hughes – Slip Away (download only cut)
Tony Iommi feat. Glenn Hughes – Let It Down Easy (Japanese bonus track of the album Fused)
Ian Gillan – When A Blind Man Cries (live at Absolute Radio)
Garth Rockett + Moonshiners – No Laughing In Heaven (live)
Mikhalis Ratzinkis – Getaway (duet w. Gillan)
Ian Gillan And The Javelins – Can I Get A Witness

The CD is reviewed on the site here.

At the risk of seeming pedantic (!) Dick Pimple isn’t actually an instrumental. Ian G does contribute several vocals lines, or have they been edited out?

    • simon robinson Says:

You’re right Roy, just my over-riding recollection of the track was the groove which thrilled us all and promised so much for the new band. Sorry Ian!

  2. Dimitris Kofidis Says:

His name is Michalis RAKINTZIS, OK?!

  3. frodster Says:

great chance to get hold of some rarities.

  4. Roberto Says:

That Mikhalis Ratzinkis duet is great: good compositions, bad (commercial) arrangements, super vocals. I hope for a true Who Cares album… They’ve missed ‘Eternity’, a huge song.

  5. Jim C. Says:

Instead of the Javelins track, it would have been nice to get Hole In My Vest or one of the other non-CD Ian Gillan tracks on here. Likewise, there are some Tony Martin era Sabbath Tracks not readily available on CD, like Cloak & Dagger, that would have been excellent reasons for collectors to buy this.

  6. hardrockpete Says:

I thought the Dick Pimple track was intended for DPAS members only?

    • simon robinson Says:

Well that’s what we were told at the time, but I guess they changed their minds now.

  7. Steve Grover Says:

Great idea, looks like a suitably eclectic mix, and hopefully all for ‘charity mate’.
