Mk 1, 8a and 8b…

July 19, 2019

Just how do we refer to all the various line-ups, and when did the Mk 1, 2 etc. system first appear?  Read our article on the site.

There is also a great story by Kurt Piepenburg looking back at his days hearing Deep Purple Mk 1 on American radio, and why he thinks they made such an impact back in the Autumn of 1968.

Concerto fifty

February 27, 2019

Marc van der Velden  tells us that on Saturday 23rd February Jon’s Concerto For Group & Orchestra (fifty years old this year, see photo below!) was performed in the Markant, Uden (Netherlands). “It was a unique concert experience, performed by the renowned 110-strong orchestra of the Royal Harmony Sainte Cécile and The Group. After The Group had opened with some Deep Purple classics including Wring That Neck, Black Night and Highway Star, after a short break the complete Concerto was performed. The evening ended with Smoke On The Water. After two hours it was unfortunately over, but it was magnificent!”
