Phenomena trilogy

January 17, 2019

UPDATE : John Tucker tells me the new CDs slack all the bonus tracks which turned up on previous editions, not sure why! UPDATE 2 : apparently there is a dispute over ownership.

The first three Phenomena albums, the brainchild of Tom Galley, have been reissued, I think this is the third time they’ve been re-released. But if you haven’t picked them up before, then now’s your chance. The first one features Glenn Hughes of course, alongside Cozy Powell, Mel Galley, Neil Murray, Don Airey and Ted McKenna, who all have mostly lengthy connections to the Purple family tree (Ted worked with Ian Gillan on his solo project). Glenn also turns up on Phenomena 2 but had jumped ship for the third disc. There are new sleeve notes and a remaster for all three discs. The press release does not give a label, but the music is now on iTunes.
CD suppliers? We tend to recommend https://www.keymailrecords.com these days, as they play fair with suppliers and everyone and can order most titles.

Whitesnake open the archives

October 1, 2014

Whitesnake Live In 84 sleeveIt does seem strange to be talking about what I regard as the real Whitesnake again after how many years, well thirty in actual fact. David has announced the first decent archive DVD release from the band’s classic era, specifically the Slide It In live tour, with footage from Super Rock Japan and Sweden in 1984, which was Jon Lord’s last show ever as a member of the band, plus bonus audio CD disc with other live extra tracks (NOT available separately). It makes a real change after all the many best ofs which have been the pattern up until now. We’ve delved into our own archives to take a closer look at the period and see exactly what’s on offer on the review pages. The DVD can be pre-ordered at DTB Online store and is due in November.

New on DTB over the past few days: Deep Purple current tour date list cancellation and corrections (http://wp.me/P5b2S-Dn), a review of the Purple show in Bonn the other night, with a set-list spoiler (three tracks off the new album) (http://wp.me/P5b2S-PJ). Roger didn’t make the show, so Nick Fyffe covered for him. Speculation about an operation was settled by Ian Gillan, who told everyone Roger was getting a brain-transplant! He was back for the following concert. There’s also a review of Blackmore’s Night on tour here a couple of weeks back (http://wp.me/P5b2S-PH). Also details of a mad special edition of the new album, complete with badges, a tote bag and an embroidered framed piece of cover art (as well as the regular CD and DVD) AND a possible 4CD Rainbow history… There aredetails of an Ian Paice session from last year on the site which we’d missed. And don’t forget news of the upcoming Jon Lord photo biography.

Roberto Souza spotted the mention of the tribute to Jon and others at the Whitesnake shows on the site and kindly sent us this photograph which captures the moment.
