Whoosh!

Whoosh! Single RSD Deutschland 2020.jpg

UPDATE – Record Store Day has been put back to late June due to current health crisis. Original story below.

Record Day is fast approaching (April 18th) and fans in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland will have the chance to grab an exclusive ten inch vinyl special from the new Deep Purple album at participating shops. As of now we do not know which tracks will be featured, nor their exclusivity or otherwise, but Lutz Reinert has sent us the sleeve (above). More as and when.

Mean time we were out shopping the other day (we’re very old school at DTB) for some computer screen cleaner and ended up with this…  and judging by the price Edel would be advised to ditch issuing records and go into making cleansers.

Record Store Day 2019

March 25, 2019

A bit of an uninspiring selection on the Deep Purple front again this year for Record Store Day it has to be said, with only three offerings appearing on April 13th.  Demon are doing Gillan’s Mr. Universe, the pretext being to mark the 40th Anniversary of the album (which just makes us all feel old!).  Collectability is boosted by “split coloured vinyl” (rather than split kneee loons) which sort of looks quite neat. But whether it’s enough to tempt people is debatable.  The Demon web site does not show how many are being made.

Friday Music are shoving out their rather lacklustre Tommy Bolin CD sampler Come Taste The Man on vinyl in a run of 1,000 copies, this is for the US but shops here seem to be listing it.

Lastly there’s a 2LP release of Butterfly Ball, with the original album plus the demos and such which appeared on the CD reissue and I don’t think have been on vinyl before.

You can check out all special releases on the Record Store days website

Thanks to Mark Maddock for his help.

Here’s a snap of the Gillan disc.

Deep Purple Black Night Record Store Day editionWe covered last Saturday’s  Record Store Day Deep Purple releases a while back (details here) but for those who are interested we have some stock of three of the titles; the Black Night 7″ pic sleeve (which has an unissued edit of a Roger Glover remix, plus the piano Speed King); the Mono Book Of Taliesyn LP (both colour vinyl) and the triple Montreux 2011 vinyl (which is the priciest of the three as you might imagine, it weighs a ton too!).
We were not allowed to offer them prior to RS day, and cannot put them on the shop yet, so please email Ann if you want copies and she will email you with the details. Supplies are very limited as indie stores got first dibs, so it’s first come first served.
Amazingly Sheffield has seen four more vinyl outlets open this year, albeit all hidden away in the suburbs where rent is cheap, but nice to see.

Out Of Hand

March 13, 2015

Book Of TaliesynRecord Store Day UK is but a few weeks away, and sleeping bags will soon start to appear outside Barry’s Record Collector shop in Sheffield as per every year.  There is a quartet of Deep Purple items on offer this year in the UK (other territories often do their own thing). Thanks also to Tim Summers.
Deep Purple – Out Of Hand – This is a 10″ vinyl release off the current album, with the album track backed up by  Après Vous (Instrumental), and on the b-side Lazy (Live At Wacken Open Air 2013) and Hell To Pay (Instrumental).
Also from recent times is a vinyl edition of  Live With Orchestra: Montreux 2011 (3LP), which has been out on DVD and CD already.
From olden times comes Black Night / Speed King 7″ on blue opaque vinyl and  The Book of Taliesyn in glorious mono, on white vinyl. This follows up last year’s Record Day issue of Shades.
Given our hassles getting stock in the past, will not advertise these up front, but WILL try to get unsold copies after the day for the new DTB collectors store.  We have managed this in previous years, and always sell at regular retail price.
Soup recipes will follow.  Search for previous Record Store Day articles relating to the band on this site using the box on the right. Meanwhile here is an amusing look at the Record Day phenomena from one of the record blogs I follow which some may find all too familiar!

Deep Purple Black Night Live record store day 2014 release. We have a small stock of the two UK 2014 Deep Purple Record Store day vinyl releases mentioned on an earlier posting for anyone who wasn’t able to queue. This is the Mono colour vinyl Shades LP and the monstrously table-mat thick pressing of the Made In Japan single.  As there are only a few, we’ve put them up on our new Deep Purple Collectors Store.

Record Store Day 2014

March 6, 2014

Details are a bit patchy on all the Record Store Day releases this year, but it now looks as if the other repro Japanese 7″ Deep Purple singles originally mooted as part of the Made In Japan box set (one remains in the 5 disc box) will instead appear on Record Store Day. The Shades Of Deep Purple vinyl is also now slated for the day as well. I’m told there will be something from Rainbow’s Black Masquerade on offer too.
As we’ve said in past years, DTB are not able to stock these releases up front but may be able to get stock afterwards, so do drop us an email if interested and we will contact you. We normally sell anything at RRP rather than try and hype it up as some on ebay do!
Funnily enough we just found a couple of copies of the 2012 Record Store Day Smoke On The Water unique sleeve still sealed if anyone is still after that. Drop Ann an email.
