Rod Evans

Cleopatra Records will be releasing Captain Beyond: The Live Anthology Official Bootleg in US in September 2013. It is a limited edition (only 1000, hand numbered) 2CD set including the following live recordings: Montreux: 18 September 1971, Miami: 19 August 1972, New York: 17 July 1972, Los Angeles: 26 May 1977
Three of these feature Rod.They say that “…the sound quality remains very lo-fi, but pure fans know that this is all part of the mystique of this great band.”  Er, what?
The three studio Captain Beyond albums have also been re-released by Cleopatra on red vinyl as well. Thanks to Jeff Breis for the update. Cleopatra Records are releasing Captain Beyond Live In Texas: October 6th 1973 in the near future, on CD and double vinyl.
Cleopatra is a US West Coast label and we know the guys there so it is all official, though this last set has been around on bootleg for some time.

Captain Beyond Magazine Special *3.07.08*

The Brazilian rock collectors mag Poeira Zine we’ve mentioned on the site before when they did a DP special. Issue 19 goes to town on Captain Beyond, with a lengthy article (in Portuguese) and an interview with Bobby Caldwell. The cover has the hippy chap off the album sleeve on, and the pics inside are very low-res.

My thanks to Bento Araujo. You can visit the magazine website at www.PoeiraZine.com.br

  2. Ian Douglas Says:

Captain Beyond is clearly one of the best, most interesting and musically advanced ‘happenings’ since Deep Purple as a band broke up for the first time around! Also there is a Scandinavian Tribute album about (I have it) sorry cannot recall title – also essential listening!!!

  3. Hartmut Says:

And Montreux is April 30th 1972

  4. Hartmut Says:

It IS NOT Los Angeles 26.05.1977. It IS Waukeegan (Chicago) Night Gallery Club!
